The early brightness in Bradshaw this morning was short lived as the mist from the valley engulfed us making for a cold, cold day.
I had thought of looking at Soil Hill but deemed it to be a waste of time in this weather.
We had an appointment in Elland late afternoon so we took the opportunity to have a stroll along the canal from Elland Bridge to the guillotine lock at Salterhebble and back.
Where a hardy boatman was passing through the lock.
It was minus 2 deg. here.
There were a few birds knocking about.
A Coal Tit was with a small flock of Long Tailed Tit.
A few Blue and Great Tits about as usual.
A few Black Headed Gulls were on the playing fields.
Nothing spotted on the river and the canal had Canada Geese and Mallard in small numbers.
A Heron was on the stream near the Guillotine lock.
Bird of the outing was a Kestrel that had a lunge for a Blackbird but failed miserably as the Blackbird shot off calling loudly.
I've never seen a Kestrel have a go at such a large bird before - perhaps it was desperately hungry.
p.s. I think that yesterday's mystery bird is a Raven.
