Shopping then a flying visit to Fairburn Ings and St. Aiden's NR

We paid a visit to Junction 32 - Castleford shopping emporium this morning and afterwards we had 2 short visits to the nature reserves hereabouts.

Fairburn Ings.

Haven't been here in a while.
It's a long stroll from the visitors centre to the Bob Dickens hide and with time pressing and the weather due to deteriorate I had only a quick gander here.
Most of the birds were very distant, but a kind gentleman got a mega distant Pintail in his scope so we could take a butcher's hook at it.
There had been a pr. Scaup reported but we did not eyeball them.

Birds:

Pintail. Goldeneye, Cormorant, Tufted Duck.
Kestrel, Many Great Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull.
Shoveler, Teal, Tree Sparrow, Wigeon. Sparrowhawk.

A look at the feeding areas near the visitors centre brought 2 surprises.
One good and one not so good.

The good surprise was a Willow Tit - a rare bird for me.
The bad surprise was the demise of one of the small birds on the feeder being whisked away by a Sparrowhawk as I was watching. Quite unsettling.

St Aiden's NR.

My first time here and I really like the place!
It was definitely a wellie job today(very clay-ie) - pity I'd not got my wellies with me.

Again we had only a fleeting visit and it was very dark and it looked like rain throughout - the heavens opened as we got back to the car.

Birds:-

Shoveler, Teal, Greylag Geese.
Possibly Pink Footed Geese in flight but I'm unsure.
Little Egret, Heron, Curlew, Redshank, Gadwall.
Great Crested Grebe, Stock Dove.
Lapwing and Golden Plover flock.

and many more no doubt.

I'm afraid that the lack of light spoiled my bridge camera's photographic experience somewhat.
The photies are a record of my day out if not a lot else!!
