Wintersett Lakes

A change of scenery today with a visit to Wintersett Lakes, between Wakefield and Barnsley.
It's a long time since I've been here.
The  main lake has a visitors centre, normally with a cafĂ©, but today just vending machines were on the go.
The lakes are huge, the main lake has good footpaths around it, more footpaths than we could use in our short time here.
The Sailing Club lake also has footpaths, they were extremely muddy today - which was no surprise given the recent rainfall.

A bit milder day but very dull, it stayed dry though.

Birds:

Tons of Wildfowl.
Tufted Duck, Mallard, Wigeon, Pochard, Goldeneye, Teal.
Gadwall.
Canada Geese, Greylag Geese, Moorhen,Cormorant.
Lapwing, Great Crested Grebe.
2 calling/singing Chiffchaff, Skylark, Bullfinch, Reed Bunting.
Tree Sparrow.
Kestrel.
(And a few others).

It was good to see a few Yellowhammer here as well.
A rare bird locally but I used to see them regularly when we owned a static caravan at Knaresborough.

I checked the Gulls out, looking for a Med, Gull or a 'special' but I did not eyeball anything unusual in among.

A good day out.

A Curlew was seen as we came down into Bailiff Bridge from the Dewsbury Road.

A Shag - unfortunately not alive and kicking any more.

Alive - Cormorant(?)
