An hour or so, mostly along New Lane (the one way lane off Birdcage Hill).
A very interesting hour with birds lively calling and singing and flitting about.
A great vantage point as well, with the leaves not on the trees yet.
Birds:-
3 Great Spotted Woodpecker (seen) was a good bonus.
As I was leaving a very distant Great Spotted Woodpecker was heard drumming.
(With all these old Oaks here there must be a Lesser Pecker here - somewhere!)
Also here, at least 5 Nuthatch.
Earlier along Broomfield Ave. an unusual call caught my ear.
There were c6 Brambling here, very active.
I did get a couple of poor pictures as they flitted about in the tree canopy.
I wonder if they will nest?
Not sure if an April Brambling is a significant find?
Foreside Lane to Bradshaw.
14:20 - 17:10
On the look out for Wheatear but no joy there but.....
Going along the path from Foreside Lane to Back Lane Ogden.
Beyond the gate after the small ruin a 'Blackbird' sized bird flushed - A Ring Ouzel.
As it left I wrote in my note book 'it left with a Thrr,Thrr sound'
The bird seemed larger than a Blackbird and flew fast and direct to disappear near the north end of Ogden conifers.
No picture alas but a real bonus for me today.
Seems to me that it started in the BOG area and landed in the Calderdale area!
Others:
Foreside Lane Area:
Curlew (double figures throughout the outing)
Meadow Pipit, Kestrel, Pheasant, Lapwing, Skylark, Mallard.
2 Snipe flushed at different points as I negotiated a really awful boggy bit.
2 Reed Bunting feeding along the path was a nice find.
Back Lane to Bradshaw.
Heron, Solitary Common Gull,
c40 Meadow Pipit over Ned Hill Track.
Kestrel, Skylark, Curlew, Pied Wagtail.
Little Owl.
A really enjoyable morning and a cracking afternoon out!
Now you see me...
