Hollingworth Lake Holiday

Tuesday 28/05/19

We took Abi and her dad to Hollingworth Lake for a short holiday.
A very poor weather forecast for today never materialised with warm sunshine, big black clouds but amazingly no rain.

Birds:

Swift, Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow.

Lots of shoreline with the water very low.

2 Oystercatcher, 1 Dunlin.
Little Ringed Plover and Ringed Plover.
Lesser Black-backed Gull, Moorhen with young.
Herring Gull.
Coot, Mallard, Mute Swan with 6 Cygnets.
Grey Wagtail.

Always on the look out for the Little Gull but no joy.

Wednesday 29/05/19

We managed a walk/ride around the lake.
A 2p slot machine visit
A cafe visit and a park visit before the rains came – then when ABI's DVD show started I sloped off for 2 hours or so.

Nice and dry in the bird hide here today!

Same birds as yesterday plus a cracking Redshank.

Some of the birds were a tad nearer and there were 3 Dunlin here today.

Thursday 30th May 2019.

Very wet early doors so we went 10 pin bowling in the morning.
I did get a good walk about in the afternoon.

A short diversion from the lake, to look at the pond beyond Peanock Farm, brought with it Lapwing with a largish chick, Redshank, Reed Bunting and Little Owl.

Around the lake:

Little Ringed Plover, Drake Shoveler, A family of 4 Grey Wagtail, Great Crested Grebe.
2 very small Lapwing chicks.

The bird of the holiday was Swift with plenty about (not many seen in Bradshaw) and they were breeding nearby.

Friday 31st  May 2019.

Home this lunchtime but I squeezed in a quick look at the lake from the bird hide.
The Lapwing chicks were still present and a pr Bullfinch were feedieng on clover.

A Little Egret was here as well - a nice leaving present.

Abi and Emma this week-end and … then we'll need a holiday!

Dunlin - how small are they!
