Brookfoot Avocet works to Salterhebble along the canal

14:30 - 16:45

We had to take Emma to Dewsbury hospital this morning.

A quick peek over Hallas Bridge for the Little Egret seen earlier in the week, came up blank - just a Heron and a few Mallards seen.

On the way back to Sowerby Bridge, Sue dropped me at Brighouse.

I enjoyed a walk along the canal on a bright, warm breezy afternoon.

Sue arranged to pick me up later so not too much time to dawdle. Nonetheless many birds flitting about to keep me interested but nothing extra-special.

Another puzzling call(s) came from the reed bed opposite the Ski Lake - possible Water Rail(?).
Not sure if there had been any sighting of Water Rail here, recently?

Birds:-

House Martin, Sand Martin (over Elland Bridge), Swallow.
2 Blackcap (seen), 2 Moorhen, 3 Black Headed Gull.
Great, Blue and Coal Tit.
Canada Goose with young.
4 Heron, Wren, 3 Chiffchaff, Mallard.
Chaffinch, Woodpigeon, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw.
Willow Warbler, Robin, Blackbird, Starling.
Great Spotted Woodpecker calling.
Bullfinch, 2 Grey Wagtail, Long Tailed Tit.
Goldfinch, Pied Wagtail, Magpie.
4 Mute Swan (1 + 2 Cygnets).

A real stinking sighting of a Mink along the river!
