The weather was mostly dry with some hot sunshine on Tuesday for a while.
A walk (minus bins) to Filey along the beach from Reighton Sands brought with it a couple of calling Terns over the sea ,that from the call, I reckon were Sandwich Terns.
A look around the massive dog walking field (took me an hour to go around it brought a possible lifer for me - bit which lifer is another question.
I thought the bird in question was probably a Skylark but with a bit of prompting from a friend looked at Pipit instead.
The bird is a large Pipit with lots of white on the breast.
Looks too light coloured for Rock Pipit?
During Tuesday I squeezed in a short trip to Filey Dams, a longish walk to the end of Filey Brigg and a trip to Flamborough Head.
(Sue was showing extreme patience with my birding today!)
Filey Dams:
Birds:-
Earlier this week Honey Buzzard had been reported here but I did not locate the bird during my Hour here.
Little Egret, Shoveler, Gadwall, Little Grebe, Tufted Duck, Shelduck, Teal, Heron, Herring Gull, Reed Bunting, Coot, Moorhen, Stock Dove, Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Filey Brigg:
The walk along the Cliffs and then along the rocks to the end of Filey Brigg is always the highlight of any trip to Filey.
The tide was out as far as I've even seen it.
Sand Martin, Kittewake, Fulmar, Gannet, Razorbill, Tree Sparrow.
Herring Gulls with young.
A distant wader in shadow of the rocks is probably a Redshank.
There was another wader here also - again I could not confidently ID the bird., possibly a Sanderling although the bird looked bigger than Sanderling?
Knot came to mind but it's the wrong time of the year?
Cormorant - thought I'd seen a Shag but my photos don't reflect that.
A Juv. Eider Duck was a great sight.
Flamborough Head:
The same clifftop sp. as Filey.
Some other birders told me that there were 3 Puffin on the cliffs and pointed out the location.
30 minutes of searching did not produce one though.
As I was leaving the cliff tp a scan of the sea did reveal a Puffin in flight though.
My mystery Pipit:-
Redshank & Knot
Knot..............
