A stroll along the river and canal this afternoon in hot cloudy weather.
The river Calder looks quite low and the outstanding feature along this stretch is the number of car tyres - they must be breeding somewhere.
Lots of people and bikers out, utilising the canal towpath, but the river path was more or less bereft of humanoids.
Struggled again to get 'a tick' but some decent birds did come along, so an enjoyable afternoon's birding.
Birds:
2 Goosander, 2 Heron, Jay, Pied Wagtail.
Lots of singing Chiffchaff.
Distant Kingfisher.
A Reed Warbler was singing frequently from the reedbeds at Brookfoot LNR - possible a second bird as well.
Moorhen, Mute Swan, Dipper.
Sand Martin, Swallow.
1 Black Headed Gull.
and a few others.
Singing Reed Warbler
Good do to get the reed warbler John. Nice one.
