Ogden Thursday Morning

9:45 - 11:45

Abi is 9 today so it's party time this aft but I squeezed in a couple of hours birding while Sue went to the hairdressers.

A mild calm day with some cloud.
A very noticeable increase in bird song/calls especially Nuthatch, Chaffinch, Robin and Blackbird.
Quite a lot seen today with birds moving about throughout keeping the interest going - few good pics though.

Birds:-

6 Common, 15 Black Headed Gull, Cormorant, Mallard.
6 Nuthatch heard NONE seen.
(3 were calling within 20 yds of me all at once!).

A Kingfisher flew under the Prom sluice 'bridge' into the darkness beyond.
A Dipper was feeding in the water here.

A very large group of smaller birds were in the north end bushes - Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit.
Chaffinch, 2 Goldcrest - an angry Robin was taking a dislike to some of them.

Treecreeper, Green Woodpecker.

A Chiffchaff sang for 20 seconds before packing it in!

3 Jay. 1 Tufted Duck.
c30 Goldfinch beyond the car park.

The sluice area below the Prom.

Dipper way down in the sluice area.

  1. Nice to get Kingfisher and Dipper John. Quite a few Jays about now as well - amazing that they start showing as autumn draws in and the acorns ripen !
