We enjoyed a walk along the canal this morning from Sowerby Bridge to Hebden Bridge, via the Kitchen café at Mytholmroyd.
The 'Nanwich' here is like a sandwich but it's nan bread with a choice of home made curry filling.
At 11am this morning one was very tempting, but Sue chose the soup, so I settled for a toasted teacake instead.
Of course my racing snake figure has to take preference.
Or was my choice influenced by a certain look from someone close by?
Do racing snakes have double chins?
No bins or camera on the walk here today.
Birds:
Grey Wagtail, 3 Goosander, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker (all heard - none seen).
Nuthatch, 46 Canada Geese in total.
1 Redwing.
Ogden:
14:00 - 15:30
The usual birding outing, a lap of Ogden Water then home via Syke Lane and Bradshaw Farm Tracks.
It was wet to start but the rained soon packed in leaving a damp and very dark scene behind.
The Kingfisher was down in the dark sluice area.
An unusual sighting and a real bonus for me here was that of a single Redpoll, feeding geedily on the Alder seeds on the west side.
Looks like a F. Lesser Redpoll to me.
Unusual for me to see a single Redpoll, I usually see them in small flocks?
Lots of active smaller birds near the north end, Tits and Goldcrest with a few Chaffinch.
Kestrel and Pr. Pied Wagtail seen along Syke Lane and the Bradshaw Little Owl was in residence, sitting in the dark.
A really heart warming outing with, for me anyway, a rare bird.
p.s. A cracking sighting on Soil Hill this aft - see link to NK's blog.
