Another local birding jaunt this afternoon.
It is proving very difficult to see anything out of the ordinary, locally, this Autumn.
My birding expectations, on leaving home, seem to outweigh this stark reality.
A brisk cold W wind on Soil Hill and clouds building from the west, making it quite dark early, but it was pleasant to be out and about in open air.
The Taylor Lane Little Owl whistled at me as I passed, I blushed a bit, but failed to see it.
3 Pheasants,2 Stock Dove, 2 Meadow Pipit and a Mistle Thrush were seen along Taylor Lane.
The usual small groups of Common and Black Headed Gull about with 1 Herring Gull seen at distance looking West from Soil Hill (Me and the Gull both looking West).
Today's excuses:-
A Greyhound type dog and walker were on the Hill and I was hoping that they might flush something, but no joy.
A Horse-ist was riding along Ned Hill Track another reason for the lack of birds there.
A Kestrel was hunting over the very top, the strong breeze making it easy for the bird to hover.
Seen along Taylor Lane, on the return leg, 4 Fieldfare were feeding with a few Starlings and small Gulls in the fading light. Their dark colours blending in with the murk.
Fieldfare are sure scarce around here this Autumn.
A couple of Blackbird either side of Percy Road were having a rare old chant but I could not see their problem - probably the farm cat.

A Distant Fieldfare blending in with the dark surroundings.
