Redcar Tarn Caspian Gull Twitch

We picked up a new power pack for Emma's wheelchair from Keighley this morning. It should help our old muscles push it, when summer arrives.

Afterwards, following B.S.'s grapevine text, we had a fleeting visit to Redcar Tarn to try and pick out a Caspian Gull (it would a lifer for me) from the 100's of Gulls that were here.

The fields on the way up there were teeming with Gulls.

I was hoping for some birders, more knowledgeable than I am (not difficult), to be present to aid my quest.
But there were just the usual cars parked and some bread lobbers.

The wind was nearing Gale force and very cold with it here.

One large Gull, however, stood out from the crowd with a very white head, so I am hoping that this bird is not a bog standard Herring Gull.
However, the chances of it being a Caspian are very, very slim.
Caspian or not, it's a stunner!

A few pictures of the outing with the  "Caspian" in the 5 lower photos.

(Raggalds flood, this aft, had a few Lapwing on it and lots of juice).

It's the Saville Orange time of year so I've been chief jam pan and jam jar washer this aft.
It will be worth it very sooooon.

Some pictures below of The Gull that stood out from the crowd?

  1. Header picture and bottom 5 are the bird I described as a very pale Herring. Its a probable Caspian but still being checked out through KM and the BOG records committee.
