morning, Sue had an appointment in Sowerby Bridge, so I took the opportunity to have a nosy around the Fore Lane top and St. Peter's Church area.
A bit more re: treecreepers:-
If you search in Google for:-
Javier blasco treecreeper
there is an amazing .pdf file available.
No snow here but a cold.stiff breeze knocking about.
Some very pleasant views looking over the valley towards Ogden.
Treecreeper Aging link
Australian - perhaps not too relevant!!
Sowerby Bridge:
Birds:-
Treecreeper, Great Spotted Woodpecker.
A good few Chaffinch (made a change).
Probably a F. Brambling (one photo shows dark spots on the flank) but the bird refused to show itself!
Mistle Thrush.
possible Barnacle Goose seen at distance on the water treatment pool, looking down from Fore Lane Top?
Common and Black Headed Gulls on the cricket pitch.
Mytholmroyd - Hebden Bridge:
A short walk along the canal to Hebden Bridge.
The canal is closed for a bit at Mytholmroyd.
Just one sharp hail/sleet shower to contend with and the cold breeze.
Birds:
Green Woodpecker called several times from trees opposite Mytholmroyd Co-Op.
Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Heron.
Greenfinch.
Long Tailed Tit.
and a few others.
We met a dyslectic Irish guy along the way.
He was wearing Cat Flap.
Barnacle Goose (or Mirage)
F. Brambling
Sign of Spring
Looks good for Brambling John. Your 'mirage' ooks like Barnacle G.... but a photo at that distance (?). Was that the treatment works at High Royd just west of Sowerby Bridge.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with the Bramling now. Tks.
I guess it's High Royd - its west of S.B.
I saw the treatment wks from where Fore Lane flattens out at the top. I was looking way down North? I guess.
Sorry the photo is pretty rubbish - but a talking point!!
John.
Top Treecreeper..... I never noticed this before on Treecreepers previously but I saw one just like this one at Ogden this morning. My attention was drawn to the very grey feathers on the closed wing down the back. I don't know if this is 'normal' or not, or perhaps indicating the age of the bird (????) -or have I just not taken enough notice previously ?!!! I'm guessing the latter...
ReplyDeleteGood question Dave.
ReplyDeleteDon't think it's a short-toed!!
This one shuffled around continually, keeping its balance with the tail moving.
The movement may have influenced the colour obtained by the camera?
John
I've added a link on this post to a website that refers to Treecreeper aging Dave.
