Soil Hill / Bradshaw

14:45 - 17:45

We took Emma to Dewsbury Hospital this morning to see the M.S. nurses for her check over.
Relegated to the back seat of the car with camera, a text came through the grapevine via Andy C of Pink Footed Geese over Beacon Hill.
I peered out of the window on the off chance that the Pinkies might appear.
Sure enough a large skein of Pinkies were seen west, very high, and distant.
I managed one picture, through the bushes, as we approached King Cross - poor picture but a minor miracle!

Soil Hill etc:

Very dark skies but only a drop of wet and NO wind!!

A nice treat to start with a pr. Little Owl seen from Taylor Lane.
Not seen them here in a while.
3 Pied Wagtail over the midden.
A Greenfinch called as it passed overhead.
3 Fieldfare and a Mistle Thrush relaxing in trees.
7 Rook in the fields.
Chaffinch in the conifers near Soil Hill track.

1 Skylark flushed and actually sang for half a second!
Curlew and Lapwing were calling from Ogden direction.
Moorhen on the lower NK pond.

A Partridge sp. flushed with a 2 note 'pleasant' call, Grey Partridge I think.
2 Pheasant.

Back along Taylor Lane two 'Raptor' types, very distant >S (interrupted by 2 distant Gulls - probably 1cy Common and Adult Common)
in quick succession had me excited.

1st one is probably a Buzzard.
2nd one is probably a Raven? but the bird seemed very big at distance and a pronounced V shaped flight puzzles me at the time.
Beginning to think Carrion Crow(5th).
As usual in the evening the birds were not hanging about for a passport photo!!

A very enjoyable outing this aft.

Pinkies through the car window.

The joke bucket is empty at present...

I guess the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades.
