Skipton and Soil Hill

Thick fog in Bradshaw this morning didn't bode well for our planned outing to Skipton.
The fog lifted a bit at Keighley and by the time we reached Skipton the sun was out.
A bright cold, crisp day ensued.
We had the usual circular walk past the castle and through Skipton Woods, then a snack in the church cafe, before some shopping.

Birds:

Buzzard mobbed by a Raven and other Corvids.
Dipper.
2 pr. Mandarin Duck.
3 Treecreeper.
Grey Wagtail.
Sparrowhawk mobbed by a Gull.

2 Red Legged Partridge
seen from the road through Connonnely.

Flooded fields too distant to see from this road, although plenty to see with a scope.
(see yesterday's Bradford birders blog).

2 Oystercatcher seen, from the bypass, on the return.

Soil Hill.

15:00  16:15

Sue dropped me at Soil Hill on our way home.
Some huge black clouds but no wet stuff.

Birds:

Skylark.
3 Herring Gull.
Small Gulls very distant.
Pr. Moorhen.
c20 Lapwing.

?Pheasant, Red Grouse, Partridge sp. silently flushed - see fantastic photo!
Seems to have white on the trailing edge of the wing?
Looks like Red Grouse to me.
(6th) Slept on it! Probably a Pheasant.

14 Fieldfare.
Starling flock.
Wren.
Pr. Stock Dove.
Little Owl.
Singing Mistle Thrush.

Raven?

Buzzard
Raven above?

Sparrowhawk

Soil Hill:

Grouse, Pheasant? ? Silently flushed is in the above pic!

Cropped from above - brilliant.
Best light I could get into the photo.
