Ringstone

For a change of scenery for our walk today we had a drive out to Ringstone.
I was hoping with the lack of rain for the last few weeks that the water level would be low enough to attract some Waders, but the water levels here remain very high and no Waders were present.
Good to have a short chat to JB.
Hot and sunny again with blue skies with not a lot happening except for a sighting of an unusual Pipit sp.

The Pipit loped along the waters edge then flew into a tree before returning to the waterside cobbles where it seemed to hop along.
The bird has two light brown stripes down the back and looked quite big, I though it was a wader a first glance.

I've seen Rock Pipit before and it does not seem to fit the bill for that.
I've never seen Water Pipit but it does not seem to fit the bill for Water Pipit either!
There are probably 2 birds here, the first one on the sandy bit of shoreline and in the tree and a second one on the strutting along the cobbles!

After all that … It looks like I've got my knickers in a twist:-

A distant Meadow Pipit had flown into the small bush were a Reed Bunting is perched.
The Reed Bunting has left the tree and run along the cobbles confusing my small brain!

With thanks to DJS, AC and JB for straightening me out!

Birds:

M. Tufted Duck
Lesser Black-backed Gull.
3 House Martin.
Pied wagtail.
2 Whitethroat.
Willow Warbler.
Meadow Pipit? Bit big looking?
Reed Bunting F. I think

Nearest I've got to a Red Kite from the garden.. so far.

Some photos of the  large Pipit Type bird

Very long legs - throwing a spanner in the works!
