I took a drive to park at Foreside Lane, Denholme and immediately noticed tons of Gulls in the fields below the north side of Soil Hill.
I had a walk along Thornton Road to take a look and some photographs.
There were c100 Large Gulls, mostly Lesser Blacked-backed with c200 Small Gulls nearly all Black Headed.
The road is busy here and the field hedge gets in the way a bit but I did take lots of pictures, some that might feature a Caspian Gull I've posted on the blog.
'Common' Gulls are difficult for me to ID with certainty so a Caspian Gull, sat in a field is way beyond my capabilities but....
(I doubt if the photos are good enough to ID a Caspian though).
After the Gull extravaganza I had a lengthy birding outing along a bridleway opposite Thornton Road,(just inside the Calderdale Birding Area) to Back Lane, Ogden and back.
Things were mega quiet to start with, with some light rain and strong-ish winds, but I fared a lot better on the return journey.
On a pleasant day, like today, this is a really lovely place to be birding.
