Ogden & Raggalds Flood

Busy this week - car MOT and service at Queensbury MOT centre yesterday - Peter was mowed out with the end of the MOT / virus "pause" over apparently.

Also, I was picked at random for a Covid19 test, so today I had to wait in while the man came in a van to take away my spit!

I managed an afternoon visit to Ogden though - wet throughout - followed by a look-see at the Raggalds Flood on the way home.
Bad timing at the Raggalds with the strong wind blowing heavy rain into the camera lens.
Ogden is full to the brim now alas ... but good news for the Raggalds Flood with lots of juice there.

Birds:-
Ogden:

Just a few Gulls today, including a couple of very pretty Common Gulls.
Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Green Woodpecker.
2 Cormorant.
2 Great Crested Grebe.
4 Swallow.
1 Sand Martin.

Not a lot else, passerines keeping well hidden - Chiffchaff was the best of the few.

Raggalds Flood:

c150 Gulls.
4 Teal.
Mostly Black Headed Gull with a few Common Gulls.

'Brown Large Gulls' - (Juv's and younger aged Gulls)
Younger Large Gulls are awkward for me to separate, (as usual).

A few Juv. / younger Lesser Black-backed Gulls here I think.
Still waiting for the magic brain bullet or the penny to drop in my attempt at a more accurate ID of these.

An "interesting" dark brown Gull was a Juv. Black Headed Gull!
Loads of juice now - bodes well for a Wader or two?
An abysmal photo of 4 Ducks revealed the 4 Teal which was a surprise!

Ogden:

Raggalds:

Mallard

Teal.
Just a hint of greeny/blue near the tail.

  1. Teal always worth a check at this time of year John. I was some time behind you at Ogden - thinking this >NE wind would have turned something up today but if it did I couldn't find it either at Ogden or Mixenden today.

  2. Sorry U missed you there Dave.
One of the Mallards has a 'punkish neck flush' that had me wondering.
I was chuffed to ID the Teal and it was good of AC to check out the Gull - with better weather I'd have stopped a bit longer at the flood and probably given it more attention.
