Pugney's Park, Wakefield.
We had to visit Wakefield this morning and took the opportunity to call in at Pugney's Park on the way home.
Lots of birds on the water here, as usual.
I thought I'd got a Ruddy Duck at one point, but will settle for a F. Common Scoter instead!
I've seen Drake Common Scoter but never a female bird.
Birds:
F. Common Scoter.
Canada Goose, Mallard, Tufted Duck.
Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe.
Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Black Headed Gull, Common Gull (a few).
Pochard, Tufted Duck, Coot, Moorhen.
Mute Swan, Gadwall, Shoveler.
Lapwing, Pied wagtail, Meadow Pipit.
and a few others.
Hag Lane, Swalesmoor.
A very breezy circular walk along Hag Lane then first right up a bridleway to turn left along the fields and descend to the old barn and along the good tracks back to the car.
We didn't hang around and what birds came along were anxious to avoid us!
Possibly - 1 Redwing and 1 Fieldfare, at different locations, both diving into trees as I looked over Shibden Valley.
No photo and not much of a gander so I'll wait a while to claim these species!
A Linnet and 2 Stonechat were very distant on a fence in a near gale.
The camera refused to focus on them, so I had to focus on a fence post and pan along the wire to get the birds. The birds were very mobile and had disappeared into the grass each time I got to where they had been.
During this memorable photographic moment, both my caps, caught in the wind , disappeared over a barbed wire fence!!
Cor blimey O'reilly I said.
