Sunday 11th and Monday 12th Outings

Sunday 11th.

Gorple Reservoir, Gorple Upper Reservoir and Widdop Reservoir.

A break from birding today with an enjoyable 5 miles or so hike along the moors.
The Covid restrictions seem to be having an impact on the great outdoors with loads of people here!
Parking was a bit of a problem and we also opted for the Colne route home which was a bit of a mistake with many cars coming out of Lancashire along this narrow road.

First up we hiked up to and past Gorple and kept along the good track to Upper Gorple.
A right turn and a stiff uphill climb brought us to another good track where we headed downhill to pass by Widdop Reservoir.

Bird wise it was down to the naked eye and not much stopping but c30 Redwing flew over at one point, a Kestrel was near Widdop and it was good to head Red Grouse calling at various points along the way.

Monday 12th Local.

Not much chance for birding today but I did manage a short stroll up to the Raggalds, along Percy and Taylor Lanes  in the nasty misty rainy stuff.

The 'flood' is a puddle nowadays with the drainage dispersing the floods within a day or two of its arrival, which is a great pity.
It would be nice if the farmer was a birder!!

Not a lot seen in the grotty stuff with just a life saver of the Black Redstart still hanging in there at Cloth Hall Farm.

  1. Some great walks up there John especially that nice area around the rocks before the descent to Widdop.
Must have just missed you this afternoon on the BlackRed trail.

  2. We were blessed with the weather Dave at Widdop.
But weekend is not the time to visit!
The Black Redstart saved my bacon this afternoon on a poor day.
    Hope you've dried out.
Still hoping for a Soil Hill Bunting but which one?
    John.
