A great day to be out in the fresh air.
Soil Hill:
A walk up to and around Soil Hill where it was still very windy but enjoyable.
Not much about bird wise. You have to be thankful for what you can get up here in autumn and winter,
Birds:-
Bullfinch, Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, Wren, Pied Wagtail, Mallard.
An unidentified Duck preening on the lower NK pond was probably a Mallard.
Lapwing with Fieldfare and a few Mistle Thrush were in the distant Shay fields.
c30 Lapwing in the Trailer Park fields, seen on our way to Shelf.
Shelf:
A really splendid exercise walk here mid afternoon.
We left the car park and went through the park with the bowling green on our right.
A thin path soon leads down right to some really chunky deep steps to the stream.
A left here and we followed this path to its demise at the road.
A right here for 200(?) yds and there is an entrance on the right back into the woods.
An immediate left here along the valley top and then a right downhill on a signed path leads to a plank bridge over the stream.
Up tother side and a Goliath of a stile got us into a field where this field path exits to a good farm track by a metal gate.
A right along this track leads back to the car park.
Birds:
Fieldfare and Redwing moving about along the tree tops.
A few Mistle Thrush and Blackbird in amongst.
A Sparrowhawk, circling, unusually fast, high overhead was soon out of camera reach.
2 Nuthatch,
Chaffinch,
Long Tailed Tit.
Robin.
A really enjoyable day.
