What happened to the forecast 'decent' day then?
I spent a damp, drizzly and very windy stroll on Soil Hill this morning hunting for DJB's Snow Bunting seen earlier.
Chances were low, really, in that the bird had flushed and left >E before I arrived.
Nevertheless I had a look along the quarry path, up by the Ordnance Column (where there is some gravel) and main track.
I failed to locate it but it's a real moral booster with the hope of more Buntings to come.
Just a Meadow Pipit flushed from the grasses east of the main track, calling as it left.
Thornton Cycle Track:
We had an exercise walk from Thornton school along the cycle track to the old Queensbury railway tunnel and back.
A tad brighter than earlier and we remained dry.
It was just possible that the Bunting could be hereabouts because its east of Soil Hill!
Anyway, nothing much going on really.
Grey Wagtail.
c30 Goldfinch.
Mistle Thrush.
Blue, Great and Long Tailed Tit.
Robin.
Great Spotted Woodpecker (heard).
Bullfinch (heard).
The Lapwing flock flew over the car at the Raggalds.
(C60 birds in a photo taken through the car window, they may not all be Lapwing though).
2 Black Headed Gull on Raggalds Flood - with a good bit of water still.
