I had a very short stroll along the canal in Brighouse, from the fishing ponds to the weir, behind the Avocet building and back.
The river is very swollen now with all the recent rainfall.
I had a look around the Raggalds area (but not for long!) later on.
Intermittent snow showers at home but the weather was not too bad at Brighouse.
A gritter was spewing salt across Bradshaw Lane as I walked home from the Raggalds this afternoon in a show shower.
Birds:
Brighouse Canal Area:
7 Cormorant.
Grey Wagtail.
Moorhen.
Mistle Thrush.
A very fast moving "Duck" is probably a Goosander.
Possibly too much dark plumage for a Male Goosander and not enough while for a Female bird but at least I some sort of a photo!
It flew over the Avocet building as was soon out of sight.
One photo shows an interesting wing shape at the top of the wing.
Looks more like a Merganser.... but the photo in the dull conditions cannot confirm either species I guess.
Raggalds Etc:
A real 'Tetley' of a wind here - bitter and strong!
13 Lapwing on the football field with some Starlings.
The Lapwing flock flushed and appeared next to the flood as I got there.
Also here 2 Jackdaw, 3 Carrion Crow, 1 Black Headed Gull and a very smart Herring Gull - 1st winter.
A few small Gulls seen in the fields on the way home.
female Goosander..
