For this afternoon's exercise walk I went up to the Raggalds Flood, Percy Lane Corner, Field path past Soil Hill quarry, Ned Hill and Bradshaw Farm track to home.
A dull, drizzly affair - windy on the hill.
Birds:-
Not a lot!
Raggalds- 4 Small Gulls with a Herring Gull that soon left, and one Lapwing.
A Heron near the small pond, on the right, just before Soil Hill quarry.
Soil Hill:
Two Meadow Pipit.
The lower NK pond looked frozen over.
5 Mallard overhead - One Female bird, Four Males.
I'm trying to turn the one Female Mallard into a Gadwall but I think it's wishful thinking.
Gulls passing through included one Lesser Back-backed Gull.
The fields near Ogden held C70 Small Gulls.
Nearing home a just a Wren and a Little Owl that took some finding as it sheltered below a wall, out of the rain.
Heavy rain forecast for the next 2 days... Yuk!
Mmmmm... suspicion of a Gadwall ...but can't be sure !
