A busy day today, just managed an exercise outing, late morning / early afternoon , up Taylor Lane over Soil Hill and back via Percy Rd.
Pretty windy along Soil Hill west side but dry and quite mild.
A concentrated hunt for a Little Owl proved to no avail with all the usual spots checked without any joy.
Birds:-
A familiar pattern with this outing during the winter months, although there seemed to be a bit more birds active with a few Skylarks on Soil Hill beginning to sing then forgetting the words and packing in soon after the start. Also Pied Wagtails were flying overhead calling and a few Meadow Pipits were calling also.
Taylor Lane:
12 + Magpie
Gulls moving throughout.
3 Pied wagtail.
Wren.
9 Common Gull and a Herring Gull.
Soil Hill:
c80 Gulls way, way down in the lower shay fields, were to distant to check through with any confidence.
Black Headed, Common and Herring Gull were here.
4 Skylark.
Robin.
2 Meadow Pipit.
One photo of a bird in flight that I though was a Skylark at the time does not seem to fit the bill.
It looks to have a 'forked tail' and some lighter shading around the head.
The photo has been mega cropped and to get any colour out of the photo, I've had to lighten it in picasa considerably.
A rare Lark or rare Bunting would be nice - but so would a big lottery win!
Prob. Reed Bunting?
Perseverance Road to home:
2 Greenfinch.
Some good juice in the Raggalds flood with 3 Gulls present.
I thought at the time that one was a Lesser Black-backed but looking at the photos it's not a LBBG. I think it is a Common Gull, but it looked quite big?
10 Lapwing.
