Abi is on holiday for 2 weeks and we 'enjoyed' some ball games in Bradshaw Park this afternoon. This morning I went up to and around Soil Hill and after the afternoon 'footie' I had 3 hours or so in the garden, sky watching. The sky watching eventually paid off with my first March Swallow seen high and very distant in the murk that was starting to build over town - but definitely a Swallow.
A late evening stroll was interesting as well and it rounded off a very busy day.
Birds:-
Soil Hill:
Loads of action on the hill with Meadow Pipit and Skylark everywhere.
16 Meadow Pipit seen in one group.
Little Owls were in the usual places on the way there and back.
Stock Dove, Kestrel , Heron, 3 Curlew and a Linnet was seen also.
2 Oystercatcher (1 looks to be sitting on eggs?)
1 Skylark seemed to have an unusual call - but I think it is a Skylark!
Garden:
1 Swallow (7 days earlier than last year).
Poss. Buzzard and 5 Large Gulls over high in the blue sky.
Local Evening Stroll:
2 Little Owl.
5 Wheatear. all very distant.
c50 Woodpigeon.
Kestrel.
2 Goosander overhead.
