Sowerby Bridge and Ringstone

Sue had a visit to Emma at White Windows and I took the opportunity to have a birding walk nearby.

Later, on the way home, we had a quick look at Ringstone Reservoir.

Sowerby Bridge:

Just the usual birds seen hereabouts today:

(Some blossom on the trees now).

Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch.

Loads of Starlings 'whistling' from the tree tops along St. Peter's Ave.

Nuthatch, 4 Greenfinch, c12 Goldfinch, Robin.

2 Mistle Thrush.

Blackbird, Jackdaw.

Hoping for a Chiffchaff or Brambling but no luck.

Ringstone:

No birds on the very choppy water on our arrival, just 1 Small Gull on the water when we left.

The Golden Plover flock were very distant in the north field, seen from the road, needed a scope to see better.

I had a walk along the west side wall as far as the bird hide.

The wind was near gale here and was accompanied by heavy rain  (seems to be the pattern so far this March). I did not stop long.

The view, from here, across to the distant Golden Plover flock was obscured by trees.

Along with the Golden Plovers there were Lapwing and Starling and Canada Geese.

I had a quick scan through the Gulls but did not pick out anything 'special' , however, it was only a quick scan, before I legged back to Sue in a the car.

I've had to 'enhance' the Golden Plover photos (a lot).

I counted 136 birds from the photos but that doesn't mean a lot, as there could be just as many birds again, hidden from my view!

  1. Surprising how those 'goldies' sort of 'disappear' in that big field. Not an easy site with a brisk westerly !!!
