With another foul weather afternoon in prospect, we had a drive out to Oxenhope to check out a couple of reservoirs.
Sue sat in the car as I had a scout about.
Ponden:
Ponden is very full now with little if any shoreline available.
2 Canonists were on the water today.
A check of the south side of the water for Common Sandpiper came up trumps with the bird seen, but immediately flushed by 5 small yapping dogs on leads nearby - boo-hoo.
Other than that a few Canada Geese, Curlew and Lapwing.
2 Sand Martins were seen briefly.
(Lower Laithe had a few Canada Geese and Mallard on it).
Leeshaw:
Leeshaw Reservoir is also very full with only a bit of shoreline.
Canada Geese, Greylag Geese and Lapwing all in good numbers here.
Possibly the Geese are a help to the Lapwing chicks? Providing some protection from predators those on foot anyway.
There were some Lapwing chicks, one quite sizeable now.
Eight Lesser Black-backed Gulls dropped in for a bath.
Also about, Oystercatcher, Cormorant and one Redshank, obscured by grass by the waters edge.
Leaving Halifax after shopping this morning there was:-
"Something in the air" by Dean Clough chimney.
I'm still struggling with yesterday's Skylark.
I cannot find any photo in my bird books or on the Web that resemble my photo - my bird looks too 'pretty' if that makes sense. Difficult sometimes this birding job> or is it just me!
