Soil Hill:
I caught up with the Soil Hill Sedge Warbler, that was reported previously, this morning.
A bit warmer than of late but still with a chill in the wind up here.
It was good to chat to AC,DJB and DJS for a good while.
Also about were:-
Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Whitethroat, Rook, Carrion Crow, Pheasant.
Linnet, Kestrel, 4 Buzzard, 2 Red Legged Partridge, Moorhen.
Mallard, Swallow, Lesser Black-back Gull, Herring Gull.
(A Sand Martin passed at distance - I did not eyeball it).
Garden:
A short garden watch after lunch was an improvement than of late with some birds moving.
10 Swift (1 + 4 + 2 + 3).
2 House Martin.
At least 6 Swallow.
A Buzzard was seen a good few times (could be more than one).
Shibden Park:
We enjoyed a short trip out to Shibden park this afternoon and it was quite entertaining with 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker nests found.
Both had sizeable young (could not say if there was more than one chick per nest) .
One chick in particular was calling constantly and looked ready for take off.
If it grew any more it looked like it would be too big to escape.
However, air traffic control did not give permission to take off during my observation.
The parent bird arrived, called and stayed near, but did not feed the chick. Perhaps it was trying to entice it out?
Some others seen:
Coots with young, Canada Geese, Mute Swan on a nest.
1 Black Headed Gull.
Mallard, Chiffchaff, Robin, Willow Warbler.
Mallard with ONE Duckling.
Canada Geese with young.
