Leeshaw Reservoir - Oxenhope

A drive out this afternoon to Oxenhope to have a short birding walk at Leeshaw Reservoir.

We stopped for about an hour and managed 10 mins. of dry weather, the rest of the outing was very wet.

Plenty of birds about - mostly Geese.

It was pleasing to see at least 50 Lapwing with some sizeable juvenile birds in among those flying around.

Birds were disappearing under the nearside banking so some numbers are probably not to accurate.

c6 Oystercatcher, 3 Heron and a few Mallard.

2 Black Headed Gull, 3 Pied Wagtail.

c30 Greylag Geese on the water - many more in the adjacent fields and on the banking.

c20 Canada Geese on the water.

1 Curlew. A few Meadow Pipit

3 Grey Wagtail down by the stream.

1 House Martin zoomed past, low.

2 Mistle Thrush.

3 Pipit-like birds perched on a field wall , during an excessively rainy moment are probably Meadow Pipit, although one birds looks a good bit darker than the other 2.

I tried to take a video on full zoom in the nasty wet stuff - and failed miserably.

But, just as a guide to how not to take a video, I've posted the blasted thing.

Large Gulls were constantly passing over in one's and two's as we sat in the car, having our obligatory Co-op ice cream take-away, in a pull in above the Dog and Gun Inn.

200 plus Gulls were 'miles off' in a ploughed field below Well Heads Lane, seen from Denholme Gate as we travelled home.

Elsewhere:

Yesterday evenings walk up the local fields found 2 Little Owl , a couple of Greenfinch and c20 Lesser Black-backed Gull circling overhead and a few other sp.

A Buzzard was seen briefly from the garden this morning.
