I was going to try for DJS's Whinchat at Ringby Lane this afternoon but the weather took a turn for the worst by the time I was free.
So, instead, I had a drive over to Ogden hoping something might drop in.. Something special that is!
Heavy rain throughout the outing was a downer and the usual crew were sailing on the water.
The circuit was quite with birds sheltering.
Ogden Birds:
Mallards.
2 Great Crested Grebe.
c40 Lesser Black-backed Gull probably a similar number of Black Headed Gull.
A few Herring and Common Gulls as well.
I am trying to separate juv. Herring and juv. Lesser Black-backed Gull by reference to the feather pattern , notches etc, but I must admit that I haven't got the knack of it yet.
I need to get some very good close up photos of both species to have half a chance with the correct ID.
There are tons of photos of 'em on t'internet and according to some sites separating them is relatively easy.
Perhaps I should consult a relative because my eyeballs struggle to tell them apart.. I hope I'm not alone with this conundrum.
3 Wren, 3 Robin, 1 Willow Warbler,
Local Stroll.
Same stroll as last night.
The Little Owl took some finding again.
A real rumpus far off , near East Croft Farm where there were many Jackdaw mobbing 2 birds of a similar size to a Jackdaw - Cuckoo or Raptor I thought.
As I got nearer the 2 Birds were Mistle Thrush - which I thought was odd?
Kestrel and 5 bundles of Joy were also seen.
