Pinkies Galore and Hewenden Reservoir

Hewenden Reservoir 13:15 - 15:00.

Very windy today and cold with it, not your ideal day for a birding walk, so I had a try for the long staying Osprey.

I took a trip to Hewenden Reservoir nr, Cullingworth, where it has been seen in the afternoons.

Not my favourite type of birding, standing and waiting, I like to be on the move.

There was very little respite from the wind as I stood near the reservoirs edge and it was very dull today. No sign of the Osprey, either.

2 fishermen looked to be doing as well as I was!

Birds:-

Lots of Canada Geese in distant fields.

Black Headed Gull.

Common Gull.

Lesser Black-backed Gull.

2 Mute Swan.

3 Cormorant.

Jay.

I nearly trod on a Hare!

Pinkies:

Pinkies appeared regularly on the grapevine this afternoon/evening

I was in Sainsburys when DJS had some quite local to Bradshaw!

(A large flock of Starlings were on the wires along Pavement Lane and 2 Kestrel and 6 Mistle Thrush were seen from the garden).

Then James reported 50 SSW over Todmorden - too far for me to see.

Then AT's over Norland >N should have appeared in my bins, but didn't!

As I sat having tea AC texted 62 over Northowram > W, now these should fill my airspace surely.

Leaving me tea on the table I went for a 'Gander' into the garden (to the Sues amazement ).

I could not locate these either and I was explaining to Chris next door about the sighting when he spotted a large skein S of me that were blocked from my view by buildings.

Chris kept his beady eye on them and they did come into my view, albeit a long way off!

I reported 150 + - the photo reveals approximately  190.

I manged some photos which is always pleasing.

Sighting were still coming in , in the dark, with AC having 80 > W over Northowram picked up later over the Ski Slope (Swalesmoor) by DJS (if these were the same ones?) and if it had been light I would have been able to see 'em!

After Ac had 80 > West over Northowram  Rowan had 30 >N over Heptonstall.

Phew!

A dull Hewenden Reservoir
