I have a few more photographs (but not very good ones) of the Goosander / Red-breasted Merganser seen yesterday at Leeshaw.
The bird was constantly diving with maybe 10 seconds between dives, a possible indication of it being hungry having travelled far?
Also looking at "Wildfowl of Europe" by Sebastien Reeber there is a photograph of a Red-breasted Merganser with a white lore stripe.
I cannot find the same lore stripe on the Goosander photos.
I have had only one previous sighting of a definite Red-breasted Merganser at Porthmadog 14/05/18 (the distant photo of it is lower down outside of this posting on the right column) so I am not well placed to say if it is one or not!!
The neck line seems well defined on the 1st photo but more blurry on others.
I am inclined to Goosander because of the neck line and it's a more bulkier bird.
Thanks to friends for their help in Identifying it as Red-breasted Merganser.
Anyway here are the other photos:-
