To Soil Hill and Back

A shortish birding outing along the fields, up Ned Hill and along Percy Rd with the now usual detour along Ned Hill Track and back and Soil Hill main track to the quarry and back.

Early morning and a garden watch was continually  interrupted by grapevine text reporting Pink Footed Geese sightings.

The texts were  mostly from AC and the Geese were moving East and were very antisocial, not coming into my sky!

The nearest I got to Pinkies was the faintest of calls way to the south of me.

However, given that I have a bit of the old nasal congestion early doors, the call could actually have been a nose whistle as I was breathing in the cool morning air!

During the morning sky watch I did enjoy watching a Sparrowhawk and Crow have a scrap. It lasted quite a while with the Sparrowhawk spiralling ever higher followed by the dogged Crow.

When the birds had got mega high the Sparrowhawk lost patience and stooped down at great speed, leaving the Crowd far behind.

Walk:

I nearly stood on a Cock Pheasant along the fields.

Ned Hill Track usually produces something good but today the strong north westerly kept things really quiet, just 3 Meadow Pipits  and a Sparrowhawk.

Other birds were 2 Stock Doves, 3 Common Gulls, Black Headed Gull with a few larger Gulls over.

Just a few Gulls over late evening with 3 Mistle Thrush.

Oh well better luck next time.
