A very cold day again, but dry for the most part.
The paths were quite slippery round and about today.
A visit to Calder Royal Hospital, Halifax allowed me a nosy around the local paths and streets etc.
The allotments were alive with Thrushes and the berry trees in the area around here, were also buzzing with Redwing.
One berry tree alone ,at the end of St. Anne's Road, Skircoat Green had 15 Redwing in it at one point.
I reckon there were in excess of 100 Redwing all told.
My Fieldfare sightings were few with the Fieldfare being a lot more wary.
Blackbirds, Starlings and Mistle Thrush were all in the mix making for a mind boggling scan after a while of looking.
Good numbers of Goldfinch and a few Chaffinch.
After lunch I did a local walk but kept out of the deep snow fields.
My route followed Bradshaw Lane, Ingham Lane, Ned Hill Road, Percy Road and Taylor Lane.
I did not expect to see much up here with all the snow and 'not much' was what I saw really.
I gave Ned Hill Track and Soil Hill Top a miss today.
Birds:
Skircoat Area:
Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Mistle Thrush.
Redwing, Fieldfare, Nuthatch, Pied Wagtail, Jay.
Local Walk:
Very Quiet.
A Raven called as I went along Taylor Lane (unseen) and a pr. Pheasant were a little further along.
Also here a Kestrel on a pylon looked really fed up, not moving as I took it's photo.
I wore a woolly cap under my baseball cap to keep what little brains I have, warm.
After a while the woolly cap made my head itch a lot, which reminded me of an old girlfriend i used to have .
She was always scratching her auburn haired bonce , saying that her cat had given her fleas.
Well she did come from Redditch so what do you expect.
