A run down the road to Lightcliffe this morning.
A dry day with a darkening sky as I looked for Woodpecker, hoping for a small one.
Birds:-
First up was a undulating bird in flight, way off, got a rubbish photo - Great Spotted Woodpecker presumably???
A Buzzard (or 2) called quite a few times nearby, but my view was obscured by trees.
Jay.
Long Tailed Tits (2 collecting nesting material).
Coal Tit.
1 Great Spotted Woodpecker (eventually).
4 Nuthatch.
4 Greenfinch. 11 Redwing.
Sparrowhawk over the house.
Cold Edge Dams.
My first birding visit here, and I was unsure about access and parking so I parked on the road by the old Delvers Pub building.
It proved to be quite a hike as I went along the Withens Road and then Lumb Lane until its demise, where a very good track takes over.
Once at top of the dams, there looks to be other very interesting access tracks.
It is a wild beautiful place with great moorland scenery and colours.
Even the gale force wind , making it difficult to stand up , along the southern edge of Leadbeater Dam, added something to the atmosphere of the place.
Birds:-
Oystercatcher.
1 Meadow Pipit.
2m 1 f Goldeneye.
2m 1 f Tufted Duck.
3 Curlew (2 heard 1 seen).
Greylag and Canada Geese 'strewn' throughout several fields.
Buzzard or maybe two (2 different sightings).
A definite, very distant, Barnacle Goose with the Canadas through the bins, morphed into doubts when I looked at my photos!!
(it would be a nice 2022 tick if so).
Lapwing.
Frogspawn in a shallow swampy area - looks like its doomed.
An enjoyable outing.
