Bolton Abbey

We enjoyed a trip out to Bolton Abbey for a walk along the river Wharf, opting to go north from the Cavendish Pavilion up the east side and back along the west side.

The car park is £15 and we found both this and the cafe expensive (or is it just me being tight?).

It was quite windy here and cool early on, sunny later which was quite pleasant.

I was hoping for ....... but didn't see any!!!

Some days are like that, aren't  they?

You go out to some where special, expecting birds A..B..C..  to turn up, and nothing!!

Next day you go out knowing nothing special will show and bang...

You're right nothing special shows up.

Birds:-

Swift, Swallow, Pied Wagtail one with a very light grey back.

2 Black Headed Gull.

1 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

5 Common Sandpiper.

7 Grey Wagtail.

1 Dipper.

3 Drake Mandarin Duck.

Male Goosander.

Greylag Goose, Moorhen, Oystercatcher, Nuthatch, Coal Tit.

A Robin flying out over the river catching flies, seen by Sue, was unfair.

A Long Legged Curlew on a distant wall.

On our way back, near the info. board by the strid rocks a singing Garden Warbler refused to show itself.

A small "silent" Warbler was possibly a Willow Warbler looking at the leg colour.... Possibly not.

Pied Flycatchers were present according to a birder I chatted to. he had seen 2 and heard 4.

..... so I pushed him into the River Wharf (mind you he was only 4' 6").

Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Surrounded by a mass of midges.

2 Photos above - Willow Warbler (going by the light leg colour)

Light coloured Pied Wagtail

Garden Warbler.
(According to my lug holes anyway).
