I had a free afternoon today with Sue taking Abi swimming near Leeds.
A cool (even 'cold' on soil hill) outing started by going along the fields past Crabtree Hall Farm, Syke Lane then Ogden Lane.
A circuit of Ogden Water then back via The Ned Hill Grunt with a short look along Ned Hill Track and a short look along Soil Hill Main Track then home via Taylor Lane.
Birds:-
A Little Owl was in the usual horse field with another seen later on , from North of 70 ish Bradshaw Lane.
Kestrel over Soil Hill.
Ogden Water:
1 Great Crested Grebe, c40 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Herring Gull, Heron.
3 Tufted Duck (2 Drakes), 7 Canada Geese.
Common Sandpiper:
A Common Sandpiper was with 2 offspring (calling loudly) on the west side of the water.
The birds were obscured by bushes that were too high for me to see over (Well the bushes were 3ft high!).
I managed to eyeball the Adult bird from a very distant north side and from an even further vantage point on the west side, I managed to eyeball one of the young birds - a distant dot.
Good news and a first for me at Ogden.
Elsewhere:
Linnet.
Whitethroat calling along Bradshaw Lane.
Very few Swallow and no Swift seen but they are probably high overhead.
Not much else.
Some kind soul has dumped a load of rubbish at the end of Ned hill Track.
