School holidays this week and we took Abi off to South Cliff Leisure Park, Bridlington, for a few days.
This is a large modern park with pretty landscaped areas.
Obviously very, very busy during the holiday period but we were fortunate to have some very quiet neighbours on all sides!
As usual we were on the go constantly with a long walk, a bike ride to Sewerby and a train day out to Filey.
The weather was cool to start but warmed up nicely as the week progressed and we were mega lucky with the bursts of heavy rain that came a couple of times, either early morning or after tea.
There were just Gulls along the massive Bridlington sandy beach and the harbour area did not reveal any waders this visit, although I did not have any bins with me.
On Tuesday we caught the train to Filey and enjoyed some time there.
Filey was my first outing this holiday, with the bins and camera and I managed to slope off for a couple of hours to check out the Filey Brigg area.
Unfortunately the tide was way, way out and the rocky spit was tourist bound so I gave it a miss, instead I walked around on the grassy area above it.
The 'usual' birds were hereabouts including a few Puffin.
Filey town had some House Martins buzzing around and the cliffs had a good few Sand Martins, which are always a joy to see.
No 'ticks' or 'lifers' this trip but there are plenty here at Filey if you have a scope, loads of time and lots of patience with of course some decent birding knowledge.
Probably more birding knowledge than I possess I guess!!
Anyway the holiday was a success with something for all.
A few bob on the slots, a sandy beach and some very cold sea for Abi.
Some birding for me and the meal we had in the South Cliff Leisure Park, where Sue tried the Chicken Fajitas, was absolutely fab - but get there early.
Some Birds:-
4 Red Kite during the journey.
2 Hare and a Roe Deer from the train.
Gannet, Puffin, Razorbill, Guillemot.
Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Linnet.
Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull.
Fulmar, Kittiwake, Cormorant, Oystercatcher,
Cracking Pied Wagtail.
