Sky Watching Comes Up Trumps

Garden:

A lazy day today sitting and reading in the garden, in the hot sunshine, for the most part. It clouded over at teatime but remained very warm and pleasant.

Raptors were out and about periodically with 6 Buzzard sightings (2,1,1,2).

2 other 'smaller' Raptors flew through too high and quick too quick or me to ID.

2  Raven , one calling also seen.

A group of 9 Swift together moved through > North.

Swallows were also feeding high and distant mostly.

Lesser Black-backed Gulls floated leisurely about in small circular groups, feeding on Insects? (Perhaps).

The icing on the ice-cream was a Red Kite that I initially mistook for another Buzzard until it got nearer.

My first in Calderdale this year and in fact for  a good while and a great garden tick as well.

The bird was soon lost behind trees somewhere over Oats Royd.

Not many pages read of my 550 page book today!!

Local:

A very short walk up the nearby fields for a Little Owl fix paid dividends with 2 Little Owl seen.

They are normally seen close to each other but this evening they were quite far apart.

Maybe a new kid on the block has arrived.
