Reighton Sands Nr. Filey

A couple of days away this week at Reighton Sands, Filey, was very enjoyable with some mega walking but not much birding. The cool wind was a feature each day, except on Wednesday (today) when we were leaving when the hot stuff arrived.

We made great use of the coastal buses and bus pass!! Saving on diesel with the price so high, visiting Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington and walking the length and breadth of all 3.

In Scarborough, 2 birders with "BBC like" cameras and scopes were scanning from the north end. I approached and asked "see owt".

A blank look and a "pardon" in probably German accent was the reply.

Speaking slow Queens English I asked what it was they were hoping to see and it transpired that they were looking for Dolphins or Seals, neither of which they had seen yet.

Hawk-eye Sue nonchalant pointed seaward .. Isn't that a Seal..

and guess what, it was!

"Voy sprung Dutch teknique"  is what I say to that!

I did get down to Reighton Sands beach late evening on the last day.

The tide was just going out and I did eyeball a few usual birds for here.

We called at Flamborough Head on our way home today (Wed).

A beautiful sunny day with quite a few binocular wearers here and some nice birds about.

Some Birds:-

Yellowhammer (h), Reed Warbler, Linnet.

Gannet, Razorbill, Guillemot, c10 Puffin.

Kittiwake nests everywhere this holiday, on rocks, on Buildings and bridges.

Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull.

Cormorant, Shag.

Manx Shearwater reported here but I have no experience of them.

So I am hoping that my Razorbills might be not Razorbills although the bills look wrong!!

Red Kites on the way.

Lots of Seals but no Dolphin seen.

Large Pipit or Lark seen from underneath that has me beat.

Looks like a large Meadow Pipit but does not seem to behave like one.

Tree Pipit comes to mind or Skylark.

A Large Birds Egg that had been 'poached' lay broken on the Flamborough Head cliff.

'Hens Egg' size , quite large that I think might be a Herring Gull egg?

But quite probably the egg is too large.

Pipit or Lark

Razorbill - but looks too big?
