After DJS's recent productive visit here, I thought I's give it a try.
The birding gods, however, were not with me today.
I parked at the start of Wainstalls Road and walked down past the school.
400 yds or so along Castle Carr Road I took a step stile on the right to follow a stream uphill on a dampish path.
There is a big hole half way up - so watch your step - I didn't.
The path crosses the Calderdale Way near a footbridge and rises to an awkward gate into the dams environment.
A very pleasant, if a bit warmer that I thought, plod around, taking in both reservoirs.
Birds:-
Most birds were on the lower dam and unfortunately almost out of camera range.
Meadow Pipit, 1 Little Grebe.
3 Snipe (1 Dam Side , 2 flushed from the drain that runs east/west along the north side of the 1st dam).
2 Pied Wagtail.
1 adult Tufted Duck with 2 Juvs on the higher dam (the juvs I mistook for Little Grebe at first).
c20 Black Headed Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Willow Warbler.
A medium sized Wader asleep on the rocks that I cannot ID and the photo is rubbish!
A large Raptor with white before the start of the tail was probably a Buzzard.
(No Chats!!).
A Peregrine was seen elsewhere this morning.
Nice Red Admiral John. I think that wader could, possibly ??, be that Greenshank that was there the other day. It had it's head tucked in then on those stones near the Lapwings.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking on the same lines Dave, thanks. But the photo is not good enough to add it to my list alas.. Stunning scenery up there, isnt there!
