Whinchat Hunt:
A run out to park near Denholme Velvets this afternoon to see if I could find a long awaited Whinchat.
A warm breezy pleasant slow wander, after yesterdays day long hike.
I first went up the bridleway that leads to Ogden Back Lane but stopped by the gate before the abattoir.
A Buzzard was seen at the bottom of Soil Hill throwing itself up in the air with some prey on the deck.
I'm not sure if the 'prey' was alive or dead but the bird seemed to be struggling with it.
I thought Buzzards fed on Carrion, so, in theory the 'prey' should be dead.
Just a bit further along another Buzzard was on a wall.
A couple of Pheasants hereabouts, but the place seemed alive with Kestrel.
At least 5 Kestrel present with 3 seen in the air together.
A couple of Swallow over but no Whinchat.
Back at the car I carried on up Foreside Lane bridleway.
Approaching the first field wall, a Stonechat was seen - very distant.
Soon, a Whinchat popped into view - albeit a long way off - Bingo.
I had a walk along the field path nearby but I could not get a better photo.
Also, Just a few Herring Gull, Black Headed Gull and Lesser Black-backed Gull seen.
It was nice to take to a farmer and his wife.
They have sold up and are moving to the top of Scotland.
Earlier a short garden watch revealed a Kestrel.
