I did not get free today until after lunch, when I decided to chance a run out to the distant White Holme Reservoir.
This outing either produces absolutely zero or sometimes a real treat.
This aft it was the latter thank goodness.
It was quite a hot walk to the reservoir but once there a refreshing breeze came along.
Once at the reservoir wall I took a right (north-ish) instead of my usual 'straight ahead' route.
3/4 very, very flighty Wheatear were zipping about on the rocks with a good few Meadow Pipit in among.
I went as far as the metalwork on the intake channel with only long distance sighting of 'somethings white' along the way.
I sat on the rocks to enjoy a snack as as I scanned the now visible little island here c25 Waders were feeding - Bingo!
I took some photos but the light / distance didn't help me get any super duper snaps.
Nevertheless a worthwhile journey here today.
Blackstone Edge Reservoir had 3 Wheatear, Pied Wagtail and Meadow Pipit as far as I could tell.
White Holme Birds:-
Dunlin, Ringed Plover, Sanderling, Ruff, Wheatear, Meadow Pipit, Kestrel.
Ruff and Sanderling are both Calderdale firsts for me - which is great.
Just a note for MB - if he reads this drivel.
There is no f in knot but in Ruff there are 2.
Cheers Matthew.
