Day of the Stonechat (Ringby Lane / Top - Swalesmoor)

A busy day today was interrupted by an hour's birding in the pleasant sunshine on Swalesmoor Top.

I was hoping for a 'rare' or 'very rare' Bunting but I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow!!

The track is mudsville at the moment so take a nose peg and your wellies if you venture here, but it was nice and quiet apart for the wood shavings digger passing by a few times - a good day.

Birds:-

Nothing phenomenal, but plenty going on to keep the interest keen.

7 Stonechat.

c60 Common Gull.

6 Black Headed Gull.

4 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

14 Meadow Pipit.

3 Pied Wagtail.

2 Green Woodpecker (One on the quarry top, one near the Heliport - both heard neither seen).

Pr. Collared Dove.

6 House Sparrow.

Not as many Crows here today.

Potential Raven looking at one of the photos.

A Buzzard was being mobbed by a Crow - seen for the garden this a.m.

14 Canada Geese over (included a white job) over Roper Lane.

Elsewhere a Peregrine was seen.

Potential Raven.

  1. Good to get 7 Stonechat up there John. I couldn't find any at Withens Clough this aft and it's usually a good spot for them. Usual winter muddy mess up there on Swales !!

I took the wellies today, so I was ok with the mud.
