Soil Hill - Shibden Park - Local Fields

Freezing foggy stuff this morning was followed by another cold but very sunny day.

I had a late morning 'grunt' up to and around Soil Hill where the snow makes everything picturesque.

Plenty of snow on Taylor Lane with bottle ice underneath.

2 BT Broadband vans were skidding slowly up Soil Hill main track - eventually making it to the Mast enclosure.

At the same time a man with a barking Alsatian was coming down the track.

I said hello and he replied 'keep away - he's nasty' - great.

I was hoping for a 'rare' Bunting but no joy today.

I though I heard a Curlew call from afar - but it was probably altitude sickness affecting me lug holes.

This afternoon we had an outing to the cafĂ© at Shibden to share a scone and have a drink (each) - yum yum - I really  know how to live.

Afterwards I had a short stroll up the local fields.

Birds:-

Soil Hill Walk:

Soil Hill:-  2 Mistle Thrush by the covered reservoir and a couple of Common Gulls.

Just the odd Magpie and Crow on the hill top.

Taylor Lane/ Bradshaw:- 2 Mistle Thrush, Kestrel.

Shibden Park:-

7 Moorhen, 4 Coot, 2 Mute Swan, c20 Black Headed Gull, Canadas and Mallards.

Chaffinch.

A Buzzard was seen momentarily as it flew over the tall trees on the far east side.

(No sighting of AC's 34 Pinkies reported over Shibden - which was a shame).

Local Fields:-

4 Mistle Thrush and 4 Fieldfare zooming about in the distance.

Distant Kestrel on a wire.

Little Owl, Heron.

A few Common Gulls.

A Fox.

A Peregrine was seen elsewhere.

And he painted match stick Canada Geese

Buzzard - massive crop from original photo.
