Up the Road and Along the Fields

Raggalds etc:

A bright and breezy day with frequent showers, and first off I had a walk up the road to check out the Raggalds Flood.

Loads of juice in the flooded field at the moment with 2 large 'ponds' but just a couple of Black Headed Gulls present on the water when I looked.

A Pied Wagtail flushed from near the wall here and 2 pr. Mallard were on the top flood.

The water coming down off Taylor Lane was surging down the drainage channel.

Winter Thrushes were in the very distant fields as I looked west from the Bonnet, Starling, Redwing and Fieldfare with a Mistle Thrush that sang a few times nearby, and Common Gulls were feeding in the fields here.

A Kestrel landed on a pylon wire and lower down there were a few House Sparrow in the bushes.

Not a bad outing for a 30 minute stroll.

Great to bump into Percy Rd. Ken who was on his exercise walk.

Local Fields:

I enjoyed a short walk up the local fields mid-afternoon and I was fortunate to miss the showers this time out.

My Yorkshire Banker, Little Owl, was sat on a field wall and a nice surprize was that of a few birds scuttling out of sight on the field edge - Grey Partridge.

I manged to eyeball 3 Grey Partridge, but I could have missed some as they zoomed out of sight.

Large Gulls overhead  ((Herring or Lesser? that I cannot ID with any confidence, from my photos showing just the underside of the wings) and Common Gulls were in the fields with a few Rook, Carrion Crow and Jackdaw.

The final Gull photograph is probably of a Lesser Black-backed Gull, Full bodied and quite dark underneath... then again...

Not a great count of separate species but I was really chuffed to get Grey Partridge - one of my (many) bogey birds!!

Hopefully lots of time to beat last years Calderdale sightings of 108 species, and maybe add to my Calderdale Life list of 139.

Might have to improve my twitching record though!!
