The usual walk along the canal and river from Elland to Brookfoot this morning.
A cracking day for a walk, with many people out and about here today.
Frost on the car 1st thing but bright and sunny with a bit less mud than previously along the river path.
First bird seen was a Dipper as I looked over Elland bridge, always a treat.
(Pity about all the black bins liners on the river branches).
After lunch I had a short sky watch from the garden.
When the sky is bright blue like today any distant birds are difficult to pick out. You would think it would be easier to see 'em when the sun shines brightly!
Anyway, apart from Gulls and Crows I did managed to glimpse a large Raptor, mega high over Oats Royd slowly drifting SSW. It may even be a Diver sp. or a Cormorant!!!
The trouble is finding the bird in the camera once you take you bins off it.
"Luckily" for me a plane was creating a white vapour trail in the sky and I could use this as a guide to its location.
Having said all that the photos were poor.
Later we had an "exercise" walk (no bins or camera) along Taylor Lane, Percy Rd, Cowhillgate Lane , Pavement Lane and Bradshaw Lane. (This felt like a long way today!).
Birds:
Elland - Brookfoot.
Dipper, 8 Mute Swan, Goldcrest, 16 Canada Geese.
3 M. 4 F.Goosander, 5 possibly 6 Heron, high in trees.
4 Buzzard sightings, probably 2 birds.
(One Buzzard's poor photo caught a it in a Stoop).
(I put a photo of the Buzzard on the grapevine the photo was a lot worse than the cropped version I've posted here, and I got some interesting responses - It's great to get some healthy feedback - thanks).
Some of my other Buzzard photos, later, were a lot better!!
5 M. Tufted Duck, 2 F. Goldeneye.
Possible Sparrowhawk.
And others.
Garden:
Buzzard probably.
Local Walk.
Sparrowhawk, Meadow Pipit.
3 Very Poor photos of the 'garden' Raptor this morning:-
