Waxwing Twitch and Sowerby Br. to Mytholmroyd Walk

A Tawny Owl was calling from the tree opposite our house at 11:00 p.m. last night.

Waxwing Twitch:

We had to visit Wyke late morning and I took the opportunity to try for the recently seen Waxwing in Tesco car park, Halifax Road, Nr. Shelf.

Thanks to Dave B. for posting the news on the grapevine earlier.

On my arrival c10 birders were in the car park, so I knew the Waxwing were still somewhere about!

A birder I spoke to said he seen the Waxwing 45 minutes previously but they had flow over Tesco's building and not returned.

A birder from Wakefield showed me a photo of one of the birds from earlier.

I had a stroll around the car park, but no joy, so we continued on to Wyke.

On our way home I had another try and this time birders had cameras pointing towards a tree with 4 dark shapes in it.

I jumped out of the car, pointed the camera at the birds, managed ONE click before they immediately flew off!!

But I did get a photo - result!!

Sowerby Br. to Mytholmroyd Walk;

This aft. I was planning to go to Brookfoot LNR looking for a LSW but when Sue decided to see a friend at Luddenden I decided to save some fuel, and scrounged a lift to Sowerby Bridge to enjoy a walk  along the canal from Sowerby Bridge running out of steam at  Mytholmroyd.

Gone are my 20 mile walking days!!

As I left Sowerby Bridge, a small flock of birds flew over behind Wetherspoons to land high in trees opposite Lidl - Lesser Redpoll - nice start to the outing!

No sooner than they had come they were off again!

I found a cracking little cafĂ©, The Blue Teapot in Mytholmroyd ,  for a coffee and a rest to wait for a lift home.

A interesting and eventful day.

A Sparrowhawk was seen from the garden earlier.
