Hollingworth Lake / Ogden to Bradshaw Birding Walk

A busy day out and about today.

Given that we are all doomed with snow on the way (remember snow?) I thought we would have a run out today before we are snowed in next week!

Mid-morning we arrived at Hollingworth Lake and did the usual exercise walk around the circuit.

A cold 3 degrees early on lifted to 5 degrees a bit later.

After losing some calories  on the walk, we both opted for some toasted tea bread and a scone to put fewer? calories back on again.

(£20! - no Wetherspoons here alas boo hoo).

On the way home Sue dropped me at Ogden to enjoy a birding walk around the water.

Home was via Ned Hill Grunt, Percy Road , Taylor and Bradshaw Lanes.

I was too tired and it was too late to venture over Soil Hill (soft sod).

Birds:-

Garden:

A very distant bird in the trees opposite our house is probably a Meadow Pipit?

Hollingworth Lake:

Probably 6 Great Created Grebe.

A pair of G.C.G curtseyed to one another but nothing more!

2 Pied Wagtail.

4 Goosander.

1 Teal!

2 Mute Swan.

I took a lot of Gull photos but did not pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Black Headed, Common, Herring and (a few) Lesser Black Backed Gulls seen.

Many Cormorant.

Coot, Moorhen.

Ogden:

Quiet again with the water very calm and still with c40 Small Gulls at one time.

A Great Crested Grebe was at the north end diving and grabbing tiddlers easily.

Raven.

Treecreeper.

Goldcrest.

Song Thrush belting a song out, behind the closed "visitor centre".

(I'm starting to miss the coffee in the visitors centre).

Ned Hill - Bradshaw:

A distant photo from the roadside end of Ned Hill Track revealed 6 or so distant birds flitting about. Hard to ID but the money is on Meadow Pipit.

2 Herring Gull over head.

Pheasant.

2 Fieldfare seen from Taylor Lane.

Kestrel Over Bradshaw Lane.

Peregrine Falcon elsewhere.

Garden - Meadow Pipit?
